Finding the right neighborhood can be a difficult task. What is right for one may not be right for another. With 38 municipalities, Palm Beach County offers many neighborhoods in different cities, towns and villages, all offering different unique atmospheres.
There are, however, some general things to keep in mind when looking for a particular neighborhood. For young families just starting out, local school district boundaries are important to consider, as is proximity to daycare, preschool and playgrounds. Downtown
Downtown West Palm Beach often means a bustling night life, large buildings, plenty of cultural activities and restaurants on every corner. Walking to places such as the Norton Museum of Art, CityPlace, and Clematis Street, are all special advantages to living downtown.
Public transportation, high rise buildings and constant activities make downtown areas in Palm Beach County appealing to young adults who crave excitement, energy and activities.
South
The southern part of Palm Beach County ends right above Deerfield Beach with Boca Raton. Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach are some of the larger cities in the area. Boca Raton is home to Florida Atlantic University and offers high-end shopping, especially at the Town Center at Boca Raton mall and Mizner Park, where there are often concerts.
Delray Beach is a favorite for retiree’s, as well as young adults, with ample hospitals, medical care, close proximity to the beach and a downtown area with plenty of restaurants and cultural activities. Delray is also home to the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, a popular tourist and cultural attraction with picturesque views and hours of exploration.
North
Northern Palm Beach County includes Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens, as well as the plenty of waterways and outdoor activities. The Loggerhead Marina, Roger Dean Stadium, Florida Atlantic University, Downtown at the Gardens and the Gardens Mall are all attractions unique to the northern part of the county.
East
The east coast of the county, by the Atlantic Ocean, has a concentrated listing of high-rise condos for rent or sale. Prices range dramatically based on location and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, however, there are plenty of housing choices available by the IntraCoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
Populations are concentrated on the eastern coast of Palm Beach County, with most of the population within a 45 minute drive from the coast.
West
Western Palm Beach County, with Belle Glade and Pahokee, is exceptionally close to Lake Okeechobee. For those unfamiliar with the lake, it is a 730 square mile lake in the lower third of the state. When looking at a map of the United States, Lake Okeechobee shows up on the map. It is the largest freshwater lake in Florida and the seventh largest freshwater lake in the country.
