Public Golf In South Florida

1602

With over 1,000 golf courses located in the sunshine state of Florida, you will have no trouble finding a place to tee it up.  But if you are looking for a public golf course with a private golf course feel, look no further than Abacoa Golf Club.  Situated just north of West Palm Beach in Jupiter, Florida, Abacoa offers South Florida residents and visitors one of the finest golf experiences available.

Built in 1999 by renowned architect Joe Lee, the course offers elevation changes varying from 30 to 40 ft and has water on 15 of if its 18 holes.  The lakes and bunkers meet the sloping fairways with little obstruction, offering a course that is both challenging but fair to golfers of all playing abilities.  That being said, perhaps the best feature of Abacoa Golf Club are its Tif Eagle greens which hands down, produce some of the highest quality putting surfaces in the south, year round.

In 2012, Abacoa Golf Club changed direction with new ownership and committed over 1-1/2 million dollars into renovating both the course and the clubhouse.  Some of the course updates include:

  • New driving range with Celebration Grass tees and raised target greens
  • Several new tees
  • Renovated lake banks and landscaping
  • Addition of an Automatic Range Ball Machine with range balls available after the Pro Shop closes
  • New golf carts with the latest Visage GPS

Abacoa Golf Club also introduced the new Abacoa Learning Center with seasoned professionals teaching individual and group sessions for men, women and juniors.  Junior camps and couples clinics are available, and over 180 ladies participate in the “Chip-N-Sip” program which includes group lessons, 9-hole play every Wednesday and fun scramble tournaments.

The new owners did not stop with the golf course renovations and continued with major improvements to the clubhouse.  New carpet, chairs and tables updated the Grille Room making it a beautiful spot to stop in for lunch.  An outside patio “Tee Time Bar” with high top tables and big screen TV’s was added giving the happy hour crowd a fun place to meet after golf or following a long day at work.  The new and updated look also makes Abacoa a favorite for hosting events such as weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs and charity functions.

If the hustle and bustle at Abacoa Golf Club are any indication, the owners are clearly on the right track.  Increased golf play, restaurant sales and number of weddings and events show the investments are paying off as Abacoa Golf Club becomes the place to be in Palm Beach County.
